The Formation of The French Bulldog Club of Victoria Australia
For several years a few French Bulldog exhibitors and breeders chatted about forming a Breed Club for the French Bulldog here in Victoria. Just prior to June 1999, some of these diligent folk got together, made some phone calls, sent out some invitations to a meeting of French Bulldog enthusiasts... with a room booked....we held our breath in anticipation.
Thanks to the popularity of the idea we had 19 people turn up to our first non official meeting. Out of this meeting we were able to get the club off the ground. On the 23rd of July 1999 the Victorian Canine Association granted us affilliation! We were able to elect our office bearers, committee, and into the bargain some new members!
We were granted our Inaugural Show date for July 9th 2000! We had a great response to our show with large entries for a not yet "popular" breed! Our Open Show went very smoothly, after which was held a sit down lunch for all exhibitors, most enjoyable! Then our Championship show... what a blast this was! A great show with heaps of razz a matazz! A great way to start off our Inaugural shows!
Our interstate visitors were many, and were very pleased with the overall presentation and running of the show. A great success! So from this day we were able to go ahead in leaps and bounds, having our second Open and Championship shows the following year in 2001. We are always very aware of the wonderful generosity of our interstate friends in helping us to raise funds.
Of utmost importance is the health of our breed, we have our newsletter and lectures at General Meetings which help keep us up to date, these include veterinary and nutritional lectures, and we are hoping to widen our scope in this area Of the most importance to our wonderful breed are the pet owners, for without them our breed would not exist. It is they who provide the loving caring homes for our beloved friends in or out of the show ring.
So welcome to the world of the French Bulldog Club of Victoria, Australia! You may contact our club through the links provided.
